our departments

Construction Department
Construction is the largest division within Thorburns, as it is made up of numerous departments, including: steel fabrication, steel erection and groundworks, to name a few. This team fabricate and construct all types of agricultural and industrial buildings to the customers specific needs. This department is ran by Managing Director Euan Thorburn, who knows the business inside out, having worked here since school, following in his fathers footsteps.
CAD Department
The CAD department works within construction, as they design all the steel buildings. At one point, this department consisted solely of Barry, but now he is joined by 3 skilled designers! Barry started at Thorburns straight out of school as an apprentice welder/fabricator, before moving on to steel erecting and cladding on site. After almost 20 years with the company, Barry taught himself CAD and has worked in the drawing office ever since!

Fabrication Department
Robbie heads up the general fabrication workshop as Foreman, with his 23 years of experience with the company he leads his team in the production of all sorts of products from gates and hoppers, to feeders and trailers. Working in both the agricultural and industrial sector, specialising in steel, aluminium and stainless.
Livestock Handling Department
Over the years we have developed our knowledge of livestock handling equipment, so we can design and manufacture bespoke systems for our customers. This department was developed by Ian through the request of a customer and has grown from there. Ian started at Thorburns after completing an agricultural engineering apprenticeship. He worked in every aspect of the business from erecting and cladding to fabrication and servicing, as well as site set up and health & safety. In 2015 he started designing livestock systems full time.

Head Office
Our head office is made up of a series of smaller departments, including Accounts, Project Management, Stock Control, Marketing and Customer Service. Many of our office members have worked at the company for a number of years, progressing their way up the ranks.
Retail Stores
We have a whole range of products in our stores, from the smallest nut and bolt to the largest agricultural machinery. Our stores have been serving local farmers, tradesman and DIY projects for over 40 years. Scott first started working as a Sales Assistant in our stores after finishing at school, and now 20 years later, after curating the product range we stock today, he works as our stores manager in Duns!
